FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS

We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in position before God but that God has ordained distinct and separate spiritual functions for men and women in the home and the church. Children are a heritage from the Lord and parents are commanded to responsibly rear them according to the Scriptures.

Terms explained:

Spiritually equal: We believe that God is not a respecter of persons and therefore all people regardless of diversity in gender, race, social or financial standing must come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 10:34; Romans 2: 11; Galatians 3:28; Colossians 3:11).

Special functions for husbands: A husband is to be the leader of the home, and men are to be the leaders (pastors and deacons) of the church. Accordingly, only men are eligible for licensure and ordination by the church. (1 Timothy 2:8-15; 3:4-5, 12). The husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church and he should genuinely and actively demonstrate respect to his wife. Fathers are to train their children and interact with them properly so as to not frustrate them unnecessarily (1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:21-3, 6:4; Colossians 3:19, 21; 1 Peter 3:7).

Special functions for wives: The wife is to submit herself unto her own husband, as it is fit in the Lord. She should do so with love. Mothers are to train their children and treat them with love and kindness not frustrating them unnecessarily (Ephesians 5:22, 6:4; Colossians 3:18, 21; 2 Timothy 1:5; Titus 2:4-5).

Responsibly rear their children: Children are a heritage from the Lord. Parents are responsible for teaching their children spiritual and moral values and leading them, through consistent lifestyle example and appropriate discipline, including Scriptural corporal correction. Parents are also commanded to not frustrate, or exasperate their children by treating them improperly (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Psalms 127:3-5; Proverbs 1:8-9, 19:18, 22:15, 23:13-14; Ephesians 6:1-4, Colossians 3:20-21).
